Fr. Max Striedl, Pastor
Originally from Batavia, Fr. Max completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, and four years later felt called to the priesthood. He studied at Mundelein Seminary, and was ordained for the Diocese of Rockford by Bishop Doran on May 25, 1996. Fr. Max says: “I absolutely love being a parish priest! I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I feel honored and humbled every day that the Lord would ask me to do this work for Him. It is truly a blessing and a joy, and I’m so happy and excited that He has allowed me to serve this wonderful Parish Family of St. Mary.”

Fr. Jonathan Bakkelund is from Machesney Park, Illinois. He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2006 with a degree in Theology and Philosophy. Upon completion of undergraduate studies, Bishop Doran asked him to study at the Pontifical North American College in Vatican City. He completed an STB in Sacred Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in June of 2009. Fr. Bakkelund served as a deacon during a pastoral year at St. Thomas the Apostle, Crystal Lake, from 2009-2010. He returned to Rome for his final year of studies in the fall of 2010 and completed a Master’s of Divinity in Dogmatics from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood and assigned to St. Mary Parish by Bishop Thomas G. Doran on May 21, 2011.

Ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rockford in 2013, Fr. Manny studied at St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Fr. Manny says, “In my vocation I have not been alone. I have experienced Christ in my life. Through my family, friends, community, classmates, and formators I have discovered what God wants of me and I have been ordained to serve God and his Church.”
